Despite a late-month rally, stocks fell in April as investors struggled with a hotter-than-expected inflation report and mixed news about the economy.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 5.00 percent, while the Standard & Poor's 500 Index declined 4.16 percent. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 4.41 percent.
